ABUSE

Counselling for Abuse in Cambridge

I offer counselling for abuse in Cambridge for adults who have experienced any form of emotional, physical, sexual, or domestic abuse, as well as coercive control, neglect, bullying, or manipulation.

Experiences of abuse can have a deep and lasting impact on how we feel about ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. Whether the abuse happened in childhood, in a past relationship, or more recently, it can continue to affect emotional wellbeing long after the experience itself has ended.

Abuse can show up in many different ways, including:

Feeling anxious, unsafe, or on edge

Low self-esteem or feelings of shame

Difficulty trusting others

People pleasing or difficulty setting boundaries

Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected

Flashbacks or intrusive memories

Struggling with relationships or intimacy

Feeling stuck in unhealthy or repeated patterns

Hypervigilance or always feeling alert to danger

Difficulty identifying or expressing emotions

Abuse can take place in many contexts, including childhood experiences such as emotional neglect, parental conflict or divorce, addiction within the family, emotionally immature or abusive caregivers, sexual abuse, or incest. It can also include experiences in adult relationships or situations where you felt controlled, unsafe, or disempowered.

My approach is warm, supportive, and non-judgemental. I offer a safe and steady space where you can talk at your own pace, without pressure, and begin to make sense of your experiences in a way that feels manageable.

Counselling for abuse can help you:

Understand the impact of past or current experiences

Reduce feelings of shame and self-blame

Build self-esteem and self-worth

Develop healthier boundaries

Feel safer in relationships

Process difficult emotions in a supported way

Recognise and change unhelpful patterns

Reconnect with yourself and your needs

Many people who come for counselling after abuse also experience anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma responses, or relationship difficulties. Therapy can help you begin to feel more grounded, more in control of your emotions, and more connected to yourself over time.

I offer in-person counselling in Cambridge city centre, online therapy sessions, and walk and talk therapy.
